Give a Wag! Gives to Cheyenne Shelters

Nestled in the southeast corner of Wyoming, between Pawnee National Grassland and the Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests, is Cheyenne, the capital of Wyoming. Home to a population of over 60 thousand, Cheyenne continues to grow at a rapid pace. This beautiful, fun city is located just an hour and a half above Denver, CO. Cheyenne is becoming a booming town for young professionals - and best of all, a great town for dog parents. With 12 state parks, six national parks, and dozens of more historical sites and hiking trails located nearby, Cheyenne is the perfect place for adventure seekers and their puppy co-pilots!

Looking to adopt your next best friend? Cheyenne has a great rescue affiliation, with two shelters acting as prominent fixtures in the community. Cheyenne Animal Shelter and Black Dog Animal Rescue are Cheyenne’s premier rescue and adoption centers. Through adoption drives, hosting local events, and working with the community, these rescue facilities save thousands of animals every year.

Cheyenne Animal Shelter has been working with the residents of Cheyenne and Laramie County for nearly 40 years, is open 7 days a week (except national holidays), and helps those with lost or found pets – to avoid rehoming when possible. Volunteering is always appreciated, too! Whether you’d like to plan their next event, walk a dog, or help educate children on handling pets appropriately, they have a job for you. Check their orientation schedule and learn how to become a volunteer today.

Black Dog Animal Rescue may sound like a color-specific group, but it is exactly the opposite! This organization prides itself on being “color blind” to all dogs (and cats), regardless of age, size, or breed, and cares for animals that may often be overlooked. Their goal is to “mak[e] a permanent change in the way Wyoming communities view and provide support for companion animals and their devoted families.” In addition to volunteering and donating, foster parents are always needed for pets who may require a temporary home.
