Give a Wag! Gives to Juneau Shelters

With a rich Native American history, Juneau is sacred land to several tribes.  This capital city has been a hub for mining and trade industries since the European settlement its absorption into the United States.  Juneau’s close proximity to the sea brings a large cruise ship industry that stops in to see the sights.  While residents are not hard at work in this bustling town, they are spending time enriching the lives of their own canines, and those of others too!

Southeast Alaska Organization for Animals (SOFA) is dedicated to providing rescue and adoption while also providing low-cost vaccination and sterilization services.  They also provide supplementary structural support to other unofficial local bodies seeking to preserve the dignity and rehabilitation of animals in need.  With adoption events happening every week, SOFA hosts a slew of fundraising and community information events to support their mission against animal homelessness.

Although they are contracted by animal control, the Gastineau Humane Society stays true to its private nonprofit roots. In addition to their adoption and rescue services, GHS also has facilities for boarding, training, grooming, and doggy daycare.  They host a number of community events like wine-tastings and silent auctions, and put out a beloved pet calendar each year.  GHS also looks to provide children in the community with a space to gain meaningful volunteer work experience and animal education opportunities.

With SOFA and GHS being the two shelter powerhouses in Juneau, the Southeast Alaska Dogs Organized for Ground Search (SEADOGS) exists as a nonprofit dedicated to training dogs for search and rescue missions. Working closely with the authorities to provide services for rescue missions, SEADOGS play a critical role in the community’s S&R task force.  Operating on donations and partnerships with local entities, SEADOGS provides local dog owners with the opportunity to have their pooch certified to save lives.
