Ashley Whippet Invitational World Championship
Every Labor Day weekend, dogs and their owners from around the world descend upon the playing field at the Nike Sports Complex in Naperville. These teams are there for a chance to win the Frisbee Dog World Championship - also known as the Ashley Whippet Invitational!
This annual event has been taking place in some form since 1975 when a dog named Ashley Whippet won the competition three years in a row. With vendors and numerous races and exhibitions taking place over the holiday weekend, there is a lot to see and enjoy. Admission is free for spectators.

Makin’ Strides for Strays Walkathon
Celebrating its 24th year in 2017, this annual fundraiser is one of the biggest events of the year for the non-profit, no-kill A.D.O.P.T. shelter! Human and canine walkers from near and far look forward each year to the 2.5 mile/5K walk that brings in much-needed funds for the shelter.
The walk begins in historic downtown Naperville and travels down and along the scenic river-walk. Refreshments for both canine and human members of each team are provided during the walk as well as at the finish line. Participants raise funds either through direct donations or via pledges for distances traveled.

Naperville Riverwalk
Featuring almost two miles of easy brick paths, the Naperville Riverwalk is a popular destination for dogs and their humans. With leashed dogs being welcome on the Walk, it is a great place for both of you to relax and unwind at any time. There is plenty of outdoor artwork and sculptures to admire while you cruise along over bridges and around numerous fountains.

SpringBrook Prairie Dog Park
Two things are required for you and your dog to enjoy the many acres of the SpringBrook Prairie Dog Park - a permit and a leash. If you decide to let your canine companion enjoy the designated area at the trailhead by the 83rd Street entrance, the leash isn’t even necessary.
With a large off-leash area as well as a common area for dogs (and their owners) to socialize and play, this dog park has become a popular destination. Plan on having towels at the ready, as there are also ponds and streams for your dogs to romp in!

Whalon Lake Dog Park
The fenced Whalon Lake Dog Park provides a much-needed area for local dogs to exercise and run free, off of the leash! It encompasses eight acres that provide benches and a shelter for the humans accompanying the pooches. One of its top features is a smaller area of approximately 2.5 acres designated for the mini-pups of under 30 pounds only.
A permit is required to use this park, but it has many other amenities. This includes access to an 80-acre lake that is used for boating and fishing. Picnic shelters and multi-purpose trails are also a part of this area.
