Give a Wag! Gives to New Haven Shelters

New Haven, Connecticut, is home to a couple of different animal shelters that are all safe havens for homeless, abandoned, and abused animals in the area. These shelters house animals to keep them from harm while roaming the streets. The two main shelters in the New Haven area are the Animal Haven and the New Haven Animal Shelter.

The Animal Haven has been helping animals find new homes since 1948. While animals are under the care of the Animal Haven, they are spayed and neutered, given medical attention, and fed. As a no-kill shelter, the Animal Haven works to find all animals a new home instead of euthanizing healthy, adoptable pets. The shelter cares for animals 365 days a year, and works strictly off donations, fundraising, and adoption costs.

The New Haven Animal Shelter is the second-largest municipal animal shelter in Connecticut. Each year, the shelter takes in around 1,400 cats and dogs. The shelter has more than 65 dog runs, and hosts several adoption events each year. The New Haven Animal Shelter partners with other organizations to host said events, such as the Humane Commission, Friends of the New Haven Animal Shelter, and the North Shore Animal League.

If you live in the New Haven area and are thinking about adding a furry member into your household, consider visiting these animal shelters. Staff can help you and your family find the perfect feline or canine match for your family and lifestyle.
