As a city in the Miami metropolitan area, Pembroke Pines boasts a long list of dog-friendly attractions and experiences. Not only that, but it’s also home to a hardworking community of animal lovers that is always ready to step in to help animals that have fallen on tough times.
A Better Life Rescue is a great example. This Pembroke Pines-based rescue group deals mainly with small dogs that have been abandoned, abused, neglected, or surrendered. It then works tirelessly to rehabilitate and care for those rescued animals, giving them socialization, training, veterinary treatment and, most importantly of all, love and a sense of belonging.
This non-profit is always on the lookout for donations and volunteers, and you can check out A Better Life Rescue’s adoptable animals through its website.
The Humane Society of Broward County also plays a vital role in the lives of homeless pets in and around Pembroke Pines. This non-profit organization runs a 33,000-square-foot shelter and can house more than 300 dogs and cats at any one time. Each year, it places several-thousand dogs, cats, and other animals in loving forever homes, giving them the second chance at happiness they so desperately deserve.
The Humane Society of Broward County doesn’t receive any direct government funding, nor is it affiliated with any other county or national organization. This means it relies on generous community support to be able to keep helping animals in need, and every donated dollar is carefully spent to benefit as many unwanted animals as possible.
How could you possibly make a day out in Miami’s beautiful South Beach any better? Well, how about if you got to share it with a whole host of Dachshunds and other adorable pooches? South Beach Dachshund Winterfest is a fun social event focused on this most charismatic and adorable of canines, but dogs of all breeds are welcome to attend. Highlights of the day include doggy activities, a Dachshund funhouse, and a grand march! The best part of all, however, is the chance to meet plenty of other dog lovers and watch these cute, cuddly canines simply enjoy themselves.
Searching for the ultimate Halloween party for dogs and their owners? This may just be it. Bow Wow Ween is a much-anticipated annual event that sees creatively-dressed canines and their human friends come together for a paw-some family fun day. Held at Pembroke Pines Dog Park, Bow Wow Ween’s biggest highlight is the dog costume contest. It’s ridiculously cute and just as entertaining, with prizes for the best family costume, funniest costume, scariest costume, cutest costume, most original costume, and the highly-coveted Miss Bow Wow Ween! Other highlights include heaps of doggy games, pet vendors, a raffle, and lots of freebies, so don’t miss this fabulous howl-iday event!
What do you get when you combine two grrr-eat dog-friendly events into one day? You get more fun than you can wag a tail at — that’s what! Doggy Fun Fest is a popular annual celebration of our furry friends and all the things that make them such wonderful companions. Held at Jaco Pistorious Park in Oakland Park, this family festival features live music, kids’ activities, pet adoptions, Notschund races, a play zone for dogs, and heaps more. To top things off, the festival is preceded by Struttin’ For Strays, a 1.25-mile stroll down NE 12th Avenue for pets and their humans. The walk raises much-needed funds for a host of local rescue groups, so grab your pet and start strutting!
Every March, the Humane Society of Broward County hosts its annual Walk for the Animals! This ever-popular and much-anticipated event takes place at Huizenga Plaza in Fort Lauderdale, and it raises funds to help the society provide shelter, aid, and responsible adoptions to the animals in its care. The 1.25-mile walk draws thousands of dog lovers and their furry friends, plus the event also features dozens of sponsor booths stocking goodies for your pooch, live entertainment, and a kids’ zone for young walkers. There’s no registration fee needed to participate, but this is the Humane Society of Broward County’s largest fundraising event of the year, so everyone is encouraged to raise funds!
A whole day of fun for you, your furry friend, and plenty of other dog lovers? Sounds pretty good, huh? This doggy day out is jam-packed with a host of fun activities for dogs and their people! There are contests to determine the best-dressed dog, best trick, and best dog and owner look-alikes, as well as adoptable animals from local rescue groups and vendors selling a wide variety of pet products.
