If you adore dogs and treasure the joy and happiness that they bring into our lives, you’ll feel right at home in Salt Lake City! The capital of Utah is just about as dog-friendly as a city can get, with ample opportunities for pets and their owners to get out-and-about together.
There are also plenty of excellent animal rescue organizations working to help and protect Salt Lake City’s canine population. Community Animal Welfare Society (CAWS) is one of those groups. This no-kill rescue is the oldest animal rescue group in Utah, and it rescues and adopts more than 1,000 at-risk animals each year. A volunteer-run organization, CAWS does not have a shelter and relies on the passion and dedication of foster carers to give animals a second chance.
Speaking of second chances, Second Chance for Homeless Pets has spent the past 17 years lending a paw to Salt Lake City’s abandoned and unwanted pets. A non-profit, no-kill facility, Second Chance acts as an extension of local shelters. It has a wide variety of dogs and cats up for adoption and is always on the lookout for donations and support.
The Utah Animal Adoption Center also has a long and proud history helping animals. Since 1983, it’s been getting healthy, adoptable pets into forever homes. The Center runs a beautiful 3.5-acre sanctuary right along the Jordan River Parkway Trail, and each year it matches around 1,000 dogs and cats with loving owners.
Save the lives of furry friends in need and have a whole lot of fun doing it at this entertaining annual event! Held to benefit the Utah Animal Adoption Center, Furry Fiesta is the hippest, most happening pet-friendly party in Salt Lake City. A ticket gets you dinner provided by El Chihuahua restaurant, drinks by Epic Brewing, and plenty of live entertainment all night long. There are raffles and auction prizes throughout the event, and well-behaved dogs are encouraged to attend!
Is your pooch the only thing in your life that you love more than hockey? If so, this is the event for you! At Pooch on the Pond, the Utah Grizzlies invite dog lovers to bring their well-behaved pooches along to the game. With corner sections reserved for fans bringing their dogs, you and your fur-kid can spend some quality time together while taking in some paw-some athletic action. There’s also an entertaining dog show during intermission and the first 300 dogs get a gift, so your pet will love every second of this paw-tastic night out!
At Strut Your Mutt, you and your dog get to enjoy a walk in the park and save the lives of animals in need at the same time! Held at Liberty Park, Salt Lake City’s Strut Your Mutt raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for animal welfare groups each year. You and your fur-kid can join stacks of other dog lovers and their pets at this fun, family-friendly celebration of all things canine. There are activity zones for pets and kids, food trucks, a beer garden, and more than 50 vendors selling a wide range of goods. And with the chance to raise funds for Best Friends or your favorite Utah animal welfare group, there’s a whole lot to love about strutting your mutt.
Looking for a cheeky excuse to spend some quality one-on-one time with your dog? This is it. Held at Barley’s Canine Recreation Center, A Date with Your Dog includes doggy activities, refreshments, a silent auction, and plenty of opportunity for two- and four-legged guests to socialize with other attendees. You will unfortunately have to pay for your date, but $25 covers the cost of the evening for you and your pet.

Held multiple times from June to September at Liberty, Fairmont, and Pioneer Park, Yappy Hour invites dog owners to bring their pooches along for a grand ol’ time at the off-leash dog park. At the same time, you can treat yourself to beer from Proper Brewing Company, tasty treats from a variety of food trucks, live music, and more!
