Give a Wag! Gives to Hoover Shelters

Acting as the official shelter of the municipality, Hoover Animal Control goes above and beyond to be seen as more than just a dog pound. The staff provides educational opportunities to pet owners in the community.  In addition to their rehoming efforts, Hoover Animal Control is responsible for investigating instances of abuse, neglect, nuisance, and aggression. They work closely with other city departments and local shelters to see fewer homeless and stray animals on the street.

Serving Hoover and other surrounding towns in the county, the Shelby County Humane Society is a nonprofit that sees thousands of animals come through its doors annually. Through one of their most robust community programs, Quick Fix, this shelter provides low cost spay and neuter services to 1,200 animals each year. Since the 70s, SCHS has been building its volunteer and foster network to provide dogs and cats with the extra TLC they deserve to find their forever home. This shelter hosts a number of community events to raise funds and bring together the Hoover pet owning community like Paws for the Cause.

Founded just over 15 years ago, Two By Two Animal Rescue is a no-kill, faith-based shelter serving Shelby and Jefferson County. This small nonprofit operates solely out of a foster network and the generosity of the community. While they may be small, their hearts for animals are huge. Two By Two hosts awareness programs in schools to promote responsible pet ownership in young people in addition to their fundraising events like Bark in the Park for the entire family.
