Hi! My name is Samantha, and I live in Madison with my husband, two boys, and two beautiful Labrador Retrievers(fur babies). I have been around dogs my whole life and know how important it is that they are treated well with much love and affection just like humans! I really enjoy walking and enjoying the outdoors in my free time, so why not walk your furry four-legged baby when you are unable to?

The Madison Animal Rescue Foundation (MARF) partners with Madison Animal Control to try and keep dogs off the street and find them forever homes! The beautiful thing about MARF is that all of their animals live with a foster family before they are adopted, so all pets are trained, socialized, and loved. Run by volunteers, MARF is a huge community advocate for responsible pet ownership, educating the public on preventative actions such as flea/tick collars, desexing, and heartworm protection.
One of the largest no-kill shelters in Madison County, The Ark is committed to providing care to all animals surrendered and to give companionship to humans seeking to adopt. The Ark operates solely on the generosity of the community and makes a point to constantly give back. Pets of The Ark make regular visits to nursing homes and are the happy faces of their annual fundraising telethon. As if that was not enough, The Ark is dedicated to providing a safe haven for animals coming from domestic violence households and has an emergency response team on call to assist the Red Cross whenever necessary.
If you couldn't gather from the name, Madison Small Pups is a shelter committed to the little guys. They rescue toy breeds from puppy mills, the streets, and through surrender. Madison Small Pups makes a point to crate train each and every dog they receive while also providing them with the necessary veterinary care to be able to go to a forever home. Surviving on donations alone, Madison Small Pups still finds the time to write detailed biographies of all of the animals they serve in order to make sure interested families are the perfect fit!
Running every Saturday each year from April to November, the Madison City Farmers Market is the destination to pick up fresh produce and local craft goods. With live music, seating, and hot food ready to eat, its a weekend ritual for many in the community! Make it a new tradition for you and Fido to share.
Huntsville Botanical Garden puts on the holiday light show spectacular, affectionately known as Galaxy of Lights, every single year starting in November. And for two Mondays only, they also invite families to bring their beloved four-legged friend to come along for the excitement. Let your fur-buddy stop and smell the roses! Take in over 200 displays while you sip your hot chocolate or "big kid" cocoa for those over 21. The cost is $7 for non-members, and $1 per dog.
This wildly popular Biergarten event takes place every Thursday during the Spring and Summer at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center. There is always the promise of live music and dancing, so make sure Fido can keep up with a busy polka circle. And while only service dogs are allowed inside the space center, all pups are welcome to the Apollo Courtyard where the event is held. Entry is free, so the only expense comes from classic German treats and beer. Its a great way to spend the night with the pooch you love!
An Alabaman past time, hiking lets both you and your dog get out of the house and in touch with the beauty of the Southern Wilds. The Old Railroad Bed Trail follows a scenic rail line-turned-walking-trail for two-legged and four-legged creatures alike. This trail is the perfect springboard into other hikes in the area, as it intersects with over five local favorites. A picturesque scene during all four seasons, Old Railroad Bed trail is the perfect fit for beginners of both species!
Held in conjunction with Dog Disc Days, Art for Paws is a festival held annually at Dublin Park during the Spring. Organizers hope to bring together what we all love in this life: pets, art, and community. Shop around from the local craftsmen, and maybe even bring a new friend home with you from the number of local shelters present as well. And when you're finished picking up a few things for the kennel or the house, zip on over to Dog Disc Days to watch canines compete for the crown.
