It has a reputation for its many festivals, carnivals, cowboy culture and also happens to be widely known for being a recovery center. There can be over a thousand people at any time within the community that are actively participating in addiction recovery.
Not only does the city expend energy rehabilitating their human occupants; a lot of effort is used to help their furry citizens as well!
United Animal Friends is an organization dedicated to finding dogs and cats a new loving home. They are a non-profit 501©3 establishment, that began in 2003. They have become a strong and growing business dedicated to rescuing, volunteering and a relentless caring for our furry friends. This results from promoting compassionate care; ensuring the futures of these misfortunate dogs and cats by finding them loving new families. The volunteers take their jobs very seriously to stop unregulated breeding by spaying and neutering each animal before it leaves the center. A great way to join in with the group and continue their mission is by attending one of their numerous events.
Circle L Ranch Animal Rescue & Sanctuary was founded in 2006 by Dr. Deborah Wilson, who resides in Scottsdale, Arizona. Her love of animals has inspired many, and her commitment to those that bark and meow is extraordinary. This shelter's location is on 40 acres in the Prescott Valley. The ranch is often overflowing, providing shelter and care to over 60 dogs and more than 200 different species of animals in total. For many of these animals, this shelter is their last hope. These fur-babies are rescued from euthanasia, owners who can no longer care for their pets, and from those who no longer want the responsibility to do so. Some animals are difficult to adopt, so they stay the rest of their lives at the sanctuary. Most are found loving, permanent families and homes were they get love and care for the rest of their days.
This bark-tacular event is a rummage sale done in the fall. You are invited to come along and get a bargain. The rummage is especially great for those who love to hunt through piles of stuff while helping others at the same time! The popularity and enormity of the sale have seen it expand to a five-day period. You can also donate to the cause by cleaning out any of your pooch’s toys that they have grown tired of.
This event is a Laundromutt dog wash held twice a year, in April and August at Whiskey's Barkery. Volunteers wash and dry your pooch for a bargain price, or you can splurge for the luxury spa package, which also includes a crème rinse, a blueberry facial and puppy pedicure! What hound wouldn’t enjoy some pampering? And you can enjoy how good they smell once they're through!
This event is a celebratory day for the adopters’ and supporters of UAF. A picnic is thrown each year to celebrate the lives, love, and happiness that these adopted pets bring to our lives and how lucky we are to have them! It also gives the carers and foster parents a time to revisit past relationships with pups and see how well they are doing in their new family environment. All who attend attest that it is a very rewarding day! It is held during August in the Ramada near the dog park on Willow Creek Road in Prescott.
