As the largest dog-centric event in San Diego County, Dog Days of Summer brings together a wide variety of local vendors, live music, doggie contests, adoption organizations, delicious local fare, and lots more tail-waggin' fun! Bring along your leashed, crowd-friendly companion to Encinitas Community Park to mingle and play while you enjoy a refreshing brew and incredible entertainment. You can even sign up your furry friend to compete for top dog in the Best Kisser, Cutest Puppy, Best Trick, Dog/Owner Look-a-like, and other exciting canine contests. San Elijo State Beach
San Elijo State Beach is a 2-mile stretch of sandy oceanfront with a nearby reef that is a favorite destination for locals and visitors alike. The bustling beach is a popular spot for local surfers and is the perfect place to snorkel, scuba dive, swim, and picnic. Best of all, leashed dogs are welcome to stroll through the sand with you anywhere south of the jetty! The state beach even offers a full-service campground, camp store, snack bar, and restrooms. Come camp by the sea with your canine companion and enjoy all the beauty the bluff-backed beach has to offer!24
Ugly Dog Contest
Take a short drive South to Del Mar for the longstanding annual Ugly Dog Contest- it's not just for ugly dogs! Taking place for more than two decades, this furry, family-friendly event celebrates all dogs! Watch your canine companion compete for prizes in all sorts of categories: Cutest Puppy, Most Unusual Markings, Best Costume, Cutest Mutt, Best Trick, Most Beautiful, Most Handsome, Looks Most Like Their Owner, and of course, Ugliest Dog! There is a $10 dog entry fee per category, but spectating doggos attend for free! Human tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for kids the day of or $7 and $5 respectively in advance. Come on down to the Del Mar Fairgrounds and strut your mutt for great prizes and a doggone good time!12
SaltDog Classic
Come on down to Seaside State Beach for the annual SaltDog Classic, a family and dog-friendly festival bringing the community and it's furry creatures together! Bring your leashed canine companions along to move their paws for a great cause. Each year, the fun-filled festival supports a different local nonprofit organization that progresses the world around us. SaltDog Classic features lots of local vendors, amazing artists, incredible live music, oceanfront activities, interactive games for all ages, a kayak surfing contest, a beer garden, and more! Suggested donation for entry to the festival is $10 while participating in the Kayak Surfing Competition is $20. Invite all of your two and four-legged friends for sandy, salty celebration honoring man's best friend!Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park
This off-leash park is lush and spacious - truly a fabulous canine oasis! Sit back and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine while your rambunctious rover mingles with other mutts, plays with puppy peers, and stretches their legs! Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park offers several separate fenced zones, watering stations, lots of benches, doggie waste bags, lush grassy expanses, and abundant parking! There are three distinct areas to ensure all dogs are accommodated: one for small dogs, one for large dogs, and one for "first-timers." Closed for maintenance every Thursday from 1-3 pm, the park is clean and well-maintained. Maggie Houlihan Memorial Dog Park is a local favorite!
