Bow Wow Block Party
Tail-wagging fun for a very good cause — that’s the Bow Wow Block Party in a nutshell! Held in August in Shingle Springs, this woof-tastic annual event raises funds to support Foothill Dog Rescue and the deserving dogs it helps. There are food trucks, live music, raffles, silent auctions, boutique vendors, and a whole lot more. Not only is it a chance to help out a paw-some rescue group, but it’s also a great way for the community to band together and celebrate all things canine. Entry is free and all well-behaved dogs are welcome, so bring your four-legged friend along and get ready to raise the ruff!

Cameron Park Pooch Plunge & Laps at the Lake
Once a year in August, dogs in the Coloma Valley and Cameron Park area are given the chance to enjoy an on-leash run or walk around beautiful Cameron Park Lake. That’s a fur-ocious distance of 1.1 miles, and every participant gets a ribbon for their efforts. Even better, once you’ve finished your Laps at the Lake, you can let your pet cool off in the Cameron Park Lake Lagoon as part of the Pooch Plunge. This annual dog-only swimming day is the perfect chance for your canine companion to splash, jump, run, and swim in the lagoon’s peaceful waters. There are food and vendors on site, while there’s a small fee charged for participating in each event. But if your pooch is always on the go or simply loves the water, it’s well worth the cost just to see the smile on his face.

Halloween Spooktacular
Forget the candy — one of the best things about Halloween is the opportunity to dress your pooch in something cute, funny, or maybe even a little bit scary! The Halloween Spooktacular, held every year at the El Dorado Hills Town Center, 20 miles southwest of Coloma, gives you the perfect opportunity to do just that. Sure, just like many other Halloween events it features trick-or-treating, outdoor movie nights, and plenty of spine-tingling, blood-curdling fun. But the real highlight is the costume contest for kids and dogs, with prizes across a number of categories and plenty of frighteningly furry entrants offering hours of entertainment.

Jessup Veterans Honor Run
Pets (and people) of any age are welcome to run, walk, sniff, and romp their way along the 5k course of the Jessup Veterans Honor Run. Held in November at William Jessup University in Rocklin, a 30-mile drive west of Coloma, this annual fitness challenge is run to support the Victor Dew Veterans Endowment Fund. Simply by completing the dog-friendly course with your furry friend by your side, you can not only honor our veterans but also reduce the cost of education for the university’s veteran and Gold Star Family students. It’s a simple way for dog lovers to show their sup-pawt for a very worthy cause, so strap your runners on and get moving!

Barktoberfest
Beer, dogs, and a whole lot of family-friendly fun — welcome to Barktoberfest, an annual festival of all things canine run by the Placer SPCA! Held at Maidu Park in Roseville each year, Barktoberfest gets underway with a fun run/walk. Dogs of all shapes and sizes can participate, while humans are welcome as well (provided they stay on their best behavior). There are costume contests (for dogs and humans), boutique and food vendors (for dogs and humans), and beer tasting (for humans only). And with a host of woof-tastic dog-friendly activities throughout the day, it’s a grrreat day out for any dog lover.
