Ugly Dog (and More) Contest at Paul Bunyan Days
Labor Day Weekend in Fort Bragg means the annual Paul Bunyan Days Festival, a lumberjack-rowdy celebration honoring the history of the local community. Occurring annually for more than 70 years, the four-day festival offers dozens of events and lots of fun for the whole family. The Ugly Dog (and More) Contest is a signature event of the weekend celebrating the community's canines in all their glory! This day is not just for ugly dogs- pups of all shapes, sizes, aesthetics, and talents are welcome! Categories include largest, smallest, best-dressed, prettiest (small and large), smartest, best frisbee, owner look-alike, and top dog! Ribbons are awarded for first, second, and third place doggo in every category. The event takes place in the dog park at the CV Starr Community Center. Come on down and strut your mutt!36
Noyo River Dog Paddle with Liquid Fusion Kayaking
Does your furry friend enjoy the water and a good adventure? If so, you will love taking them along for a kayak excursion up the Noyo River! Enjoy a day of smooth waters, nature exploration, and fun for the whole family! Liquid Fusion Kayaking offers various picturesque kayak tours and welcomes canines comfortable with cruising to join their humans out on the water. The company even hosts occasional Dog Paddle events benefitting the Mendocino Coast Humane Society so you can cruise the river with fellow dog lovers and their canine companions! Kayak rentals start at $30 for two hours and well-mannered dogs are welcome to cruise with you for a $5 fee that includes a canine floatation device.24
Pet Photos with Santa
Calling all hounds who love the holidays! Bring your furry friend down to Highway 20 Feed for their annual Pet Photos with Santa event. Dogs of all shapes and sizes, naughty or nice, are invited to attend this festive photo session and meet-up with Mr Claus himself! Several different picture packages are available with variable prices. This holiday event is lots of fun for the whole family and both two and four-legged members are encouraged to participate in the pictures. No appointments necessary- stop down anytime between 11 am and 3 pm! A portion of the proceeds from the event benefits the compassionate care for the animals at the Mendicino Coast Humane Society.12
Noyo Beach Off-Leash Park
Your four-legged friends are welcome to frolic in the sand and splash in the sea at the Noyo Beach Off-Leash area! The gorgeous, rocky coastline offers lots of sights and smells for your curious canine to enjoy and explore. Though most of the California beaches enforce leash laws, this designated area for dogs allows your puppy pal to enjoy the coastline leash-free! The beach boasts plenty of space and is enclosed by stunning cliffs and can be easily accessed by a short trail. There are even doggie waste bags on site for quick and convenient cleanup.
