The San Francisco Bay Area is regularly featured in lists of America’s most pet-friendly locations, and Fremont, located in the southeast section of the Bay Area, is a perfect example of why. Along with a host of dog-friendly attractions and experiences, this city also features several leading animal welfare organizations that rescue and rehome abandoned pets.
Ohlone Humane Society is one of those groups. A non-profit animal welfare organization that serves the Tri-City area in the East Bay, the society’s goal is to inspire respect and compassion for all animals. As a privately funded group, it relies on the generous support of the local community through donations and volunteering to help homeless companion animals find loving homes. Ohlone Humane Society has been helping the region’s animals since 1983 and strives to meet whatever challenges those animals may face in the future.
Furry Friends Rescue boasts a similar level of commitment to Fremont’s unwanted animals. Since 1998, this all-volunteer organization has been rescuing, fostering, and finding forever homes for dogs and cats in the San Francisco Bay Area. As Furry Friends does not have a shelter, it relies entirely on a network of foster homes to provide rescued pets with the care, attention, and love they so desperately need.
This approach has helped Furry Friends Rescue save the lives of more than 13,000 animals since it was founded in 1998. Its volunteer homes provide shelter to around 120 dogs and cats of all ages all year long, and it currently rescues and rehomes approximately 1,000 pets each year!
