Give a Wag! Gives to Gilroy Shelters

Known as the Garlic capital of the world, the city of Gilroy CA looks to the local police department to help lost dogs find their way home. The lost mutts are housed in six outdoor kennels and if no-one comes to claim the dog after five days, they are taken to the nearby San Martin shelter. Here, the dogs receive good care and are put up for adoption in the hopes of finding a new home.

The Santa Clara animal shelter works in conjunction with Gilroy CA, running an affordable spay/neuter program for dogs - plus it’s free for all Pit Bull breeds and some other larger dogs. This service is offered by a few of the local vets including the San Jose Animal Hospital located at 940 Berryessa Road, San Jose and the Animal Clinic 45 Cronin Drive, Santa Clara.

Surrendered pets from the Gilroy, CA area arrive periodically and all effort is made to re-home them. The shelter has a No-kill policy and is a recipient of the infamous Maddie’s fund, founded in 1997 by Dave and Cheryl Duffield and named after their adored Miniature Schnauzer. These animal angels have donated vast amounts of money to help animal shelters fulfil their promise of a no-kill, countrywide policy. The generosity of this couple helps this affiliated animal shelter tend to sick, injured dogs with an inspirational medicine program in place. Lost and ill-treated dogs from the city of Gilroy, CA are in good hands, as this shelter works alongside wonderful non-profit groups like Jake's Wish Dog Rescue – All Creatures Great And Small Animal Rescue. The Perfect Dog takes canine champs with special needs from the shelter and works tirelessly to rehabilitate them and get them the home they deserve.

It’s time to call your puppy pal for fun times at the local dog park, where you can play ball or go for a pleasurable walk. The Gilroy dog park is a fenced area with two separate enclosures for large and small dogs. It’s located in the Las Animas Park situated at 400 Mantelli Drive. The entire space is around 23 acres of established trees, walkways, and wide open spaces! There is also a children’s play area, a baseball diamond, a basketball/tennis court plus picnic areas with the usual restroom amenities. The space where doggies come to play is large and mainly dirt, so it pays to keep it clean. There are young trees growing to provide future shade and a water fountain is on site for thirsty pups.
