Give a Wag! Gives to Livermore Shelters

Big Dawgs Rescue was launched in 2009 by Joanne Rivero, who gathered support from volunteers to run this Not for Profit Animal Organization. They are committed to saving the lives of abandoned and homeless pets with a focus on placing them in forever homes.

Once the pets enter the shelter, they are placed in foster care where they can be looked after by the carers, rather than being caged for an extended amount of time. The sick animals are provided with medical care and the pets with behavioral issues are given special treatment to help them begin to trust again.

The Big Dawgs Recuse is against breed discrimination and advocates for keeping ALL pets in their care. It is their mission to help pet owners and educate them on their responsibilities towards their pet.

They are also aware that a small part of the community believe that shelter animals are "damaged" in some way. They rigorously defend this myth and actively take part in showing that most of these pets find themselves in the shelter for other reasons than the animal itself.

Approximately 25% of animals at the shelter are purebred. Instead of going to a local breeder the Big Dawgs Rescue recommend you try them first as these pets are waiting for a home and family they can live with forever.

All the pets are spayed and neutered to ensure the over population of these animals are decreased. The Big Dawg Rescue continues to provide these services to help the very many culnerable animals that need a forever home.
