We're sure you've heard of Santa Maria before, if not for their world-famous bbq, then for their copious amounts of vineyards and wineries, but did you know that Santa Maria is gradually growing famous for something else? Their dog-friendliness! As is the case with most California cities, doggos are quite welcome in everyday activities, and, like other Cali cities, much of this attitude can be credited to the shelters in the area.
One of the biggest shelters, the Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, is a self-described vibrant and exciting organization that exists to rescue, shelter, heal, and protect dogs in the Central California Coastal Community. Since their inception in 1984, they've placed over 12,900 animals into loving homes!
Similarly, the Santa Barbara Humane Society, which services the Santa Maria area as well, has a huge impact on the community. Dedicated to the welfare of animals, this shelter strives to find a safe haven for homeless pups until they're able to find new homes.
