Situated right between Los Angeles and San Diego, Temecula, California has its fair share of common city problems. One of these problems is a large homeless pet population. Animals in the area are lucky, however, because there are quite a few shelters and rescues close by that take in and care for homeless pets! Two of these shelters are Animal Friends of the Valleys and Domino Effect Animal Rescue.
Animal Friends of the Valleys has its origins dating back to 1987 when the only animal shelter in the area was operated by the city and animals didn’t receive proper treatment. At the time, the shelter was cleared weekly as dogs, cats and other small animals were euthanized. Volunteers stepped in, and eventually, the shelter transformed into Animal Friends of the Valleys - which is dedicated to providing and promoting humane care of animals. To do this, the organization cares for animals until they find new homes and educates the public on responsible pet ownership. This non-profit is funded by donations, fundraisers, and adoption fees.
Domino Effect Animal Rescue is a non-profit, no-kill rescue that is dedicated to lowing the number of adoptable animals that are killed due to lack of space in local shelters. Each animal that comes through the doors of Domino Effect Animal Rescue is given a second chance at life. By taking animals out of overcrowded shelters, the rescue prevents unnecessary euthanasia of that pet and possibly others.
If you are looking to adopt a pet in Temecula, consider a visit to one of these shelters.
