Give a Wag! Gives to Walnut Creek Shelters

Walnut Creek, California, is situated about 30 miles east of San Francisco. The short distance from a major city means that Walnut Creek is more prone to having a homeless animal problem than many other towns in the country. Luckily for the homeless animals in the area, there are a couple great organizations that help care for them in their times of need.

Tony La Russa’s Animal Rescue Foundation is a rescue organization that takes in animals whose time is running out at public shelters where they will be at-risk for euthanasia. This non-profit was founded in 1991 and has a clear mission of giving homeless animals a second chance at life by giving them all the time they need to find a permanent family. Since opening, ARF has helped more than 36,000 dogs and cats find new homes and performed more than 38,000 spay and neuter services to prevent increasing the current pet overpopulation problem.

Contra Costa Humane Society was formed in 1991 when two organizations, Stop Pets’ Annual Yield (SPAY) and Animal Protection Bureau (APB), merged to form a new organization. Together, these two organizations created one that was dedicated not only to helping care for homeless animals, but also to preventing more unwanted animals from needing help. The organization also helps educate the public on responsible, respectful, and compassionate care and treatment of animals. CCHS is also working toward decreasing the euthanasia rates in the area by continued spay and neuter efforts.

If you live in the area and wish to adopt a new pet, consider contacting one of these organizations.
