Give a Wag! Gives to West Sacramento Shelters

California is a state famous for its love of all creatures great and small, and it’s no different in West Sacramento. When dogs in this city on the banks of the Sacramento River need help, there are several grrr-eat animal rescue and welfare groups that aren’t afraid to get their paws dirty and help out.

The Sacramento SPCA is a perfect example of this commitment to helping animals in need. This open-admission animal shelter has been working to reduce pet overpopulation since 1894, and it does this by offering discounted spay and neuter services, running education programs to promote the humane treatment of animals, and assisting pet owners to ensure that more furry friends and their families stay together for life.

In order to pursue its mission to foster a loving and compassionate community for animals, the Sacramento SPCA is always on the lookout for donations and volunteers. If you’d like to support its efforts, why not find out what you can do to help?

Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary is another local rescue group worthy of both recognition and support. Founded in 1993, this no-kill, cage-free rescue organization is staffed entirely by volunteers. Its mission is to protect and improve the lives of homeless and abused animals throughout the Sacramento area.

Though Happy Tails specializes in cats and kittens, it also saves dogs and other small animals from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. All dogs and puppies from the sanctuary are spayed or neutered and receive essential veterinary care, so check out its adoptable animals if your family is searching for a new fur-baby.
