When you think of a city in Florida, your mind probably immediately flashes to beach-side living, palm trees, and balmy weather - but not all of Florida looks the same. Brooksville, Florida is a quaint, middle-of-the-state town that celebrates the simple, good things in life. So, it makes sense that they'd want to celebrate pooches, doesn't it?
For such a small city, Brooksville has a surprising number of dog-friendly activities for pups, and though they're not topping any Pup-Friendliest Cities Lists as of yet, their love for dogs and encouragement to bring them around is constantly growing.
Much of this has to do with the shelters that serve the area, like the Humane Society of the Nature Coast. Open since the mid-60s, this non-profit, no-kill shelter has a no time limit policy that re-homes and helps rehabilitate orphaned or abandoned doggos in the area.
This shelter serves the Hernando, Pasco, and Citrus county areas and offers dozens of services. From sheltering, fostering, providing medical care, to educating the public, spaying and neutering strays, and promoting pet welfare, this shelter does it all while keeping animal safety and wellbeing at the forefront of their mission.
You and your pooch only have to pay $30 to enter but have the chance to win up to $250. Make sure you sign up for this annual event, your pup will thank you! Keep your pooch on-leash and remember, you must be over 18 to attend!
