The vast number of shelters in the area don't hurt in making it a dog-friendly area, too. One of the biggest, most pupular shelters in the area is the Humane Society of Broward County. This organization is a non-profit, 501(c)3 shelter that has the ability to house over 300 dogs and cats in its 33,000 square foot shelter! In 2017, they placed over 6,791 animals in new, responsible homes. Overall, their mission is to educate the public, find homes for pups in the community, and provide veterinary services when possible.
Another organization that's well-known in the area is the Florida Humane Society. Though it's located outside of Deerfield (near Pompano) it serves Deerfield, Pompano, and Coconut Creek. A 501(c)3 organization, the Florida Humane Society specializes as a primary adoption facility rescuing companion animals from animal control surrenders. In addition to this function, they have tons of programs that help enhance animals' lives, like community education and spay and neuter programs.

Looking for a fun-filled day of doggo activites? Join up with your pup for the annual Doggy Fun Fest and Struttin' For Strays Pet Walk! Though this event isn't technically inside of the Deerfield Beach limits, this annual celebration is worth the extra few minutes of head-out-the-window-time in the car. You and your pup can help raise money to support local rescues, pet shelters, and rotary community projects all while enjoying music, a doggy fun zone, pet cool zone areas, an almost-mile-and-a-half fundraising walk with your pooch, and a pet adoption area! Don't miss out on this annual day of fun with your pup!
If it's summer in Florida, you know it's hot! If you're thinking about cooling down, it's entirely likely that your furry pooch is too, which is what makes this annual event a total splash for pups and their pawrents. Join the Dog Days of Summer event again this year at a few different pools and water parks for dog-only water days! Head over to Castaway Island and T.Y. Park for two weekends of doggo water fun. For $5, you and your pup can enjoy a 50-minute session of water activities in designated doggy areas. Make sure your pup is up-to-date on his shots and surgeries, first!
We know, it's October, but in Florida, that might as well mean it's August. If you're still in need of some cool-off time, enjoy the annual Barktoberfest for a K9 splash adventure. You and your pooch can enjoy a designated doggy swim area, an adoption event, a doggie marketplace, costume contests, and more at this uniquely Floridian Fall festival! You can join the fun at the Quiet Waters Park for just $1.50 per person and pooch!
This annual event put on by the Florida Humane Society is one of the biggest, doggiest events of the year, and odds are, you and your pup won't want to miss out! Known as the furry, fabulous, and fun dog show, this local favorite is one of the best ways you and your pup can support your local shelter, and have fun doing it! This event features a dog fair with the latest fashion, foods, and training services then moves through the day with a mom and dog fashion show, doggie contests, silent auctions, luncheons for you and your pup, and even a meet-n-greet yappy hour!
We know you and your pooch love a good walk, why not join in for the largest one in South Florida and support your local shelter at the same time? The annual Walk for Animals is one of the largest events run by the Broward Humane Society. Every year, you and your pup can join thousands of others pooches in the Deerfield Beach (and South Florida area) for a fun walk and a good cause! Lace up your shoes, South Florida pawrents, you and your pooch won't want to miss out! Help the shelter reach their goal of $575,000!
