Ft. Myers doesn't lack shelters, pup organizations, groups, or charities, either. The Gulf Coast Humane Society is located in Ft. Myers and is a 501(c)(3) not-for-proift and no-kill animal welfare organization. Running strictly off of grants, donations, and fundraising, this organization's mission is to help companion pets find their forever homes - with no time limit! They provide adoption, spay and neuter services, education, and awareness about the welfare of homeless pets.
Other popular organizations in the area are the Animal Refuge Center, the largest no-kill animal shelter in Florida, and the Forever Pets Rescue organization, a non-profit, no-kill shelter!
If you and your pooch want to get as Ft. Meyers as you possibly can, The Shell Factory and Nature Center is the perfect place to go! Though it's not a doggie-centered establishment, it is pup-friendly, and is even commonly referred to as Doggy Heaven. Though some parts of the park aren't pup-permittable, the doggy park (Doggy Heaven, that is) is open for you and your pooch during normal business hours. You and your pooch can even enjoy Dog Dock Jumping events or attend Doggy Church. The Doggy church happens every Sunday at 9:30 in the morning -- after, you and your pup can enjoy the park or cool off in the fountain. Don't forget to stop at the Dog Bones Cafe for delicious doggy treats!
