Give a Wag! Gives to Kissimmee Shelters

The dogs and pet owners of Kissimmee, FL are in good hands with Osceola County Animal Services, an open admission animal shelter and field enforcement program. The shelter first opened in 1996 and have since been committed to advocating for the welfare of animals and serving their local community. Working in partnership with other Florida rescue groups, they strive to find every pet in need shelter, care, and a loving fur-ever home!

All incoming animals receive a cursory examination, vaccinations, and any necessary medical treatment from the shelter's veterinary staff. Additionally, every dog and cat is neutered (a term that, contrary to popular belief, actually includes both spay and castration surgeries) as a part of their efforts to mitigate the overpopulation that leads to homeless pets. Osceola County Animal Services is involved with community outreach through neuter education, vaccination clinics, and education programs on the importance of preventative care.

They have also partnered in with the Transition House, a place for former inmates to stay as they prepare to join the workforce again, to form the T.R.E.A.T.S. program (Training & Rescuing Eagerly Adoptable & Talented Shelter Dogs). Dogs in the T.R.E.A.T.S. program receive extra training, attention, and enrichment to enhance their adoptability while the trainers gain skills to help them integrate back into the workforce.

Services offered by the government-operated shelter include lost and found pet reporting, a foster program, pet licensing, field education, pet owner resources, and animal rescue, rehabilitation, and adoption. Osceola County Animal Services is fundamental to the health and happiness of the Kissimmee community.
