A lot of this is due largely to the dog-shelters, organizations, and non-profits that are being built up in the area.
The S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue Inc., one of the most popular shelters in the area, was founded in 2008 with the goal of saving adoptable dogs and cats from euthanasia in the Northeast Florida Area. Since their inception, they've rescued about 7,000 lives! Their efforts are focused on rescuing pets from facilities that are unable to house them indefinitely, hosting them in their shelter or finding foster families.
Another popular organization is Wags & Whiskers, a non-profit dog rescue that uses volunteers to help rehome hundreds of dogs and cats in the area! They spay or neuter all animals that come through their doors, as well as provide them with the necessary vaccinations. They spend a great deal of time focusing on sheltering, fostering, and fundraising to keep homeless animals off the street.
If your pup isn't quite the history buff you are, you can take him to other doggy parks in the area. Check out Treaty Park on Wildwood Drive or Ron Parker Park on Old Beach Road. Just make sure you've got your pup's papers verifying his shots!
Never surfed before? Your pup doesn't have a board? No worries, dudes! You and your doggo can borrow a surfboard to catch some sweet swells. Pups will be divided into three classes based on their weight. Come out to snag some surf, splash in the water with your four-legged friend, and support a great cause!
