Give a Wag! Gives to Athens Shelters

One of the largest no-kill shelters in Georgia, Athens Area Humane Society sees upwards of 5,000 animals come through its door annually. Their number one initiative is providing neuter and spay services for all animals they serve with their full-time surgical team. This shelter is highly engaged with the community, hosting events year-round like the Santa Bar Crawl, Paint Your Pet, the Brew Classic, and many more! And if you are in desperate need of cheering up, Athens Area Humane Society maintains a live feed of all of their adoptable kittens on their website.

Ten years ago, a group of Georgia locals founded Circle of Friends Animal Society to support the animals that were being neglected by the rescue system because of chronic health conditions or breed. They started out small with a staff of the eight founding members and grew to be a little army. Today, COFAS facilitates rescue and rehabilitation using a vibrant network of foster homes and partnerships with local stores to host adoption events weekly. COFAS also partners with Wooftrax, so participating members can donate to them for every mile they walk with their pup.

This non-profit rescue operates solely from their foster families, usually taking animals that have been surrendered or abandoned by former families. It is for this reason that a majority of their adoptable animals are taken quickly, as they are already well trained and socialized. Despite the lack of formal shelter space, Athens Canine Rescue rehomes hundreds because of the fierce dedication to the dogs of Athens. When they are not developing foster family connections, this shelter hosts several fundraisers like 5Ks and meet & greets.
