The suburban city of East Point sits just to the southwest of Atlanta, making it a great spot for any dog lover who wants easy access to Atlanta’s best and biggest dog-friendly attractions. This location close to the capital of Georgia also means the city’s animals are well served by a plethora of animal welfare organizations and rescue groups.
Atlanta Humane Society is one of the oldest charitable organizations in the state and has been helping the city’s animals since 1873. Each year, the society helps around 30,000 animals and offers the assistance and care 9,000 dogs and cats need to find loving homes.
With a commitment to never euthanize adoptable animals, the Atlanta Humane Society never imposes time limits on the animals in its care. As part of its mission to improve animal welfare in the southeastern United States, this non-profit also implements preventative initiatives, education programs, and advocacy services throughout the wider community.
Furkids Animal Rescue & Shelters is another non-profit that works tirelessly to help needy animals. Headquartered in Atlanta, this inspirational group runs Sadie’s Place, a no-kill shelter for dogs, and also operates the largest cage-free, no-kill shelter in the Southeast for rescued cats.
Furkids’ mission is to rescue homeless animals, give them the best medical care in a nurturing environment, and pull out all the stops to find them a forever home. Since it was founded in 2002, the organization has rescued more than 25,000 animals. If you’d like to help Furkids save more animals, consider making a donation, volunteering or becoming a foster carer.
