Give a Wag! Gives to Des Moines Shelters

A nonprofit humane organization, Furry Friends Refuge is committed to assisting all animals in need throughout the larger Des Moines area. They offer a slew of services including adoption, spay, and neuter, and community outreach and education. The first no-kill organization in the Des Moines metro area, Furry Friends Refuge also partners with WestPet animal control to help with housing, reunification, and adoption programs for stray animals in the area. Furry Friends relies mostly on their dedicated volunteers and all donations go directly to the programs they provide the community.

Throughout the state of Iowa, the Animal Rescue League (ARL) serves animals and people with programs such as pet adoption, pet behavior training, spay/neuter, humane education and animal cruelty intervention. The ARL is completely reliant on volunteers and individual/corporate contributions to help care for its animal and provide their services. They’re committed to promoting animal welfare, strengthening the bond between animal and human, and preventing overpopulation.

The Animal Lifeline of Iowa (ALI) is the only special needs, no-kill animal shelter in Central Iowa. With over 30 years of serving the area, they’ve rescued cats and dogs that are handicapped, injured, need serious medical attention, abused, pregnant, etc. They offer rehabilitation services for animals that have a higher risk of euthanasia in a traditional type of shelter and then help the animals find their furr-ever homes. The ALI is committed to reducing the number of special needs animals risk of being euthanized by providing care, shelter and facilitating positive long-term pet guardianship.
