Mutt Run Off-Leash Dog Area
Do you love a happy, tired dog? Take your pal to the Mutt Run Off-Leash dog area for lots of space to stretch their legs and romp around with friends! Opened in 2001, this dog park offers both fenced and unfenced areas with doggie water dishes, a drinking fountain, restrooms, and stunning woodland views. The space is enormous, enabling you to find a quieter less-populated spot for inverted pooches or a dog mecca for socializing. Paw Valley Festival and 5K
The Paw Valley Festival is an amazing annual event honoring our beloved furry friends and supporting the important work of the Lawrence Humane Society. This festival is lots of fun for both the two-legged and four-legged members of your family, featuring a 5K run/walk, local vendors, food and beer booths, contests, music, and dog-friendly activities! You can even enrol your active pup into the Skyhoundz Frisbee Disc Dogs Championships! The event is free to attend for the entire family, but the 5K registration fee is $30-$40, which includes a t-shirt, run timing, and a rewarding bag of goodies! The 120-acre park is teeming with native plants and wildlife and has several amenities to enhance your visit, including an off-leash dog area, 10 miles of trails, and picnic areas. Riverfront Park offers several trails right along the beautiful Kansas River, many of which you can take your well-behaved dog without a leash. Formerly known as the Lawrence Rail-Trail, this site is one of 1600 trail systems supported by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization dedicated to transforming old, unused railroad lines nationwide into inviting trails for walking and biking. Come exercise your four-legged friend on this converted old railroad corridor. The path is well-maintained, wide, and paved, making it accessible to all! Clocking in at just under a mile, this trail is a quick excursion to squeeze in some quality outside time with your pet.
