Founded following the devastation of Hurricane Katrina by three women with a dream, Animal Rescue New Orleans' doors have been open ever since! Through their partnerships with the community, this shelter is able to save countless animals from being euthanised. ARNO operates its no-kill operation almost entirely from volunteer power and has rescued or reunited almost 10,000 animals since its inception. They work to trap homeless animals seeking medical treatment and rehabilitate feral colonies they feel have a fighting chance at a forever home.
One of the original shelters in New Orleans, the Louisiana SPCA has been at for over a century! They have been such a central part of New Orleans animal scene, that several jazz songs have been written about them. LA-SPCA host dozens of events each season to fundraise like tap takeovers at bars and ticketed brunches. In addition to their vibrant social calendar, LA-SPCA maintains a robust youth program offering items like birthday parties, a camp called Project Humane, and classroom education programs.
Situated on eight acres of beautiful farmland, Heavenly Dog Paws Sanctuary is the safety net for all dogs that seem destined for unnecessary euthanasia. With this mission in mind, most dogs brought to the sanctuary are in dire need of dedicated medical care. Once that is so lovingly provided, Heavenly places them for adoption. Because of their commitment to providing thorough medical care, Heavenly Dog Paws Sanctuary is unable to accept strays. However, they can and do take many pets that are voluntarily surrendered to rehome.
