Hashawha Environmental Center
Hashawha Environmental Center is located at 300 John Wings Road in Westminster, Maryland and consists of 320 acres of trails for running, walking or just hanging out with your leashed, furry friend and your whole family! Hike the trails, do a little fishing or, if you are feeling nutty, check out the chestnut orchard! The area is an outdoor wonder filled with wildlife, local bird species, flora, and plenty of fresh air. What a great place to spend the day with your whole family, including Fifi or Fido! There is also a nature center and planetarium on site. Come enjoy some great times with your family and learn a lot about nature in the process.36
Pooch Pool Party
After the dog days of summer comes the pooch pool party every September! Be sure to mark your calendar! All dog owners, bring your pups to the Westminster Municipal Pool located at 325 Royer Road. Attendees are required to have proof of their dog's current vaccination records and all dogs must have their rabies ID on their collar or harness. Only the pooches are allowed to take the plunge and play. Pawrents will be standing close by with plenty of towels to dry off their wet puppy dogs. Let your dog run, jump, play and even doggy paddle with their furry friends. It's a day that dogs and their people look forward to all year long. Be sure to bring your camera - there will be plenty of happy memories you will want to capture forever!24
The Union Mills Homestead
The Union Mills Homestead is located seven miles north of Westminster in nearby Union Mills, Maryland. The whole family is welcome, including your leashed, well-behaved doggo, to come and explore the grounds. This amazing home was built in 1797 and had a grist mill and a sawmill on the estate as well. There was also a tannery, a wheelwright. a blacksmith shop, and a barrel maker's cooper shop. The homestead has much of the original furnishings. Your leashed dog is welcome everywhere except inside the main house. There are many community events held throughout the year like a corn roast, a flower and plant market and a Christkindmarkt so check out their website and make your plans now!12
Carroll County Farmer's Market
There is nothing like an outdoor farmer's market in the fall - the crisp fresh air, your friends and neighbors setting up their local produce, fruit and homemade jellies, candies and other items for sale and you finding bargain after bargain as you and your whole family stroll the aisles. Your leashed pup is welcome in all the outdoor areas as long as his leash is non-retractable! Be sure to keep a close eye on your furry friend and keep him under your control while you look around (and also clean up after him, too). The Carroll County Farmer's Market is located at 700 Agriculture Drive. Be sure to check the website for weather closures and dates and times they will be open during the year!
Westminster Fallfest
Mark your calendar for this family-friendly, friendly-dog-friendly event that celebrates all things fall. Cider, pumpkins, hearty flowers and crisp fall air are just a few things that will be offered at Fallfest. The festival begins with a parade down Main Street and is followed by family-friendly games, treats and refreshments, craft vendors selling homemade goods like candy, pastries and pies and lots and lots of entertainment. Come out and catch up with your family and friends, grab some hot cider and get your fall on!
