Give a Wag! Gives to Cadillac Shelters

Cadillac, Michigan is the county seat for Wexford County. The city is known for Cadillac Lake, trails for snowmobiling, biking and walking, and the nearby Caberfae ski slopes. For animals in need of shelter and rescue, they can find compassion and care at the Wexford County Animal Shelter, located on 6th Avenue in Cadillac.

The animal shelter is operated by the county and is under the control of the sheriff. While there have been recent requests by neighboring non-profit organizations to manage the shelter, local commissions decided to keep the sheriff as the shelter's top dog.

Volunteers run a Facebook page that promotes adoptions of animals - the Wexford County Animal Shelter Shares. This group has achieved non-profit status and operates independently of the sheriff's office. The Facebook page helps animals to find fur-ever homes and lost pets to be reunited with their owners. They also raise donations to go toward the care of the animals. Their efforts enable many to adopt a pet with low or even waived fees.

The volunteers offer pet adoption events and education to the local community on animal training and care. Come. Sit. Stay. Learn. The group brings in professional trainers to offer training "fur-ums" to the community.  Reviewers comment on the friendliness and commitment of the volunteers to making sure the animals are socialized and able to find a home. This unique arrangement exemplifies how creative volunteers can use social media to bring people and pets together.
