Give a Wag! Gives to Dearborn Shelters

When visiting Dearborn, MI, make sure you make a quick pup stop at the local animal shelter. Friends for Animals of Metro Detroit is a local non-profit organization that dedicates all of its available resources to help out animals in need. Since being organized in 1993 by a small group of animal advocates, this shelter has since become a staple in the local community by proving that all animals are worth it.

When it was first established, this shelter was actually called the Dearborn Animal Shelter and was run as a pound where animals were sold for only five dollars each, without any screening process. Once "the friends" took over in 1993, they were able to pave the way to creating a positive and safe environment for each animal that comes through their doors. While it has not always been the smoothest road to travel, this shelter has proven itself to be one of the most wonderful places around for puppers and kittens alike.

This shelter is commended for how involved they get in the surrounding communities by participating in different outreach programs, which include adoption events, spay/neuter events, and events run by the city. Additionally, they also have a website that details just how to adopt an animal through their shelter and goes over how to become a volunteer. This organization prides itself on the fact that it has not needed to euthanize any animal due to cage space since the year 2000, and they plan to keep it that way for years to come! The shelter is located at 2661 Greenfield Road and is open various hours throughout the week.
