Bark in the Dark
Although there are not many dog events within Portland itself, there are tons of events for dogs and owners throughout Michigan. Bark in the Dark 5k is both family and dog-friendly. There will be a puppy photo booth, balloon animals, beer, wine, food, live music, and tons more! All proceeds will go to Humane Society of West Michigan. The specific date and location are released close to the event, but expect it during the Fall!

Pet Therapy Seminar
Have you ever been interested in your dog doing pet therapy? This special event and seminar explain what is involved in therapy work, what personalities are best suited for it, and the expectations of dog therapy. Seminars will be held on certain Saturdays Throughout the year and tickets for the event are $35. You can bring your pup along with you as well, as long as he/she is able to sit quietly next to you during the seminar! Lunch is included with the entry fee. This is hosted at the Humane Society of West Michigan's Training Center.

Annual Bow Wow Brunch
This annual event hosted by the Michigan Humane society is something you will not want to miss! Although it is a little bit of a drive from Portland, it's worth the trek. The event will take place on a Sunday in April at the MGM Grand Detroit Hotel. Past events have included activities like champagne reception, live and silent auctions, adoptable animals, and delicious eats. Proceeds from this event go to the MHS to help their dogs and animals in need! Tickets are $250/person for adults and $100/person for children.

Mutt March
On a day in June from 8 am to 12 pm, join in on the fun at Mutt March. This annual event has gone on for more than 30 years now, and your pup can gear up and go on this fun walk/march with you! Their Mutt Marches have raised nearly $75,000 already and it is only growing more each year! The proceeds from this event go to the Michigan Humane Society to help save dogs' lives, feed them, provide them with much needed medical treatment, and it really does help change the community in Michigan and curb the overpopulation of animals throughout the state!

Dream Spay 5K
During the month of May join the Dream Spay 5k with your favorite dog! The event will be held from 9 am to 4 pm at the Riverfront Park in Niles, MI. Admission ranges from $20-$25. This is a timed 5k walk or run for humans and their pups. All dogs must be leashed and non-aggressive. After the race, there will be fun dog demonstrations, like rally, agility, basic dog training, and so much more! There will also be a ton of vendors and some yummy refreshments.
