Heart of the Valley is a nonprofit, open admission shelter, accepting any dog or cat brought to them and handling more than 2,800 animals every year. Striving to bring pets and people together, Heart of the Valley offers humane education programs for children, dog training classes, animal behavioral consultations, micro-chipping and ID tags, and no cost spay/neuters for feral and semi-feral cats.
Above all else, the shelter places great value on ensuring that only healthy, adoptable dogs are rehomed into the community as to prevent sickness or injury to other animals or even people. Every animal that leaves the facility is an ambassador, rather than a liability, to other homeless animals awaiting adoption. All animals are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped before being adopted out. In 2016, the shelter reunited 730 lost pets with their families and found new homes for more than 1,806 animals.
