Give a Wag! Gives to Missoula Shelters

It's no secret that Montana is crazy about canines, and Missoula, the city famous for the Clark Fork River running right through the center of town, is no exception! In fact, the city is so pooch-pawsitive, recent statistics suggest that there's one resident dog for every two people in Missoula. That's a lot of pooches!. Everywhere you turn, you'll find pups frolicking through town.

Perhaps because of the heavy dog population, Missoula is also home to several dog shelters, organizations, and charities. One of the most popular is the Humane Society of Western Montana. A no-kill shelter, this organization takes in about 1,300 animals annually and boasts a 98 percent adoption rate! The humane society not only offers pet therapy programs, adoption services, fostering programs, and other educational services, but they also help by hosting annual adoption fairs, giant fundraising events, and safe, affordable services for your pets.

Another well-known organization in the Missoula area is the  Animeals no-kill shelter, adoption center, and food bank.  The organization doesn't just shelter, adopt, and re-home homeless pets, they also have distributed over 650 tons of food through their food bank. The main message that Animeals hopes to convey with their organization is that homelessness is not just a human condition and working toward responsible pet ownership, such as spaying and neutering our animals, can help us move toward a decline in the staggering number of homeless animals.

Pet Fest aims to educate and entertain the public about pets, but it's also a day filled with special pet-tractions and a huge adoption fair! If you and your pup prefer low-key activities that allow you both to run wild and free and enjoy the outdoors,  Missoula is the perfect spot for you! The city is home to dozens of dog-friendly hikes and a handful of exciting dog parks that you and your pooch will never want to leave. #5 Riverfront Activities & Caras Park

One of Missoula's best features is it's waterfront and river walk area. Here, dozens of annual festivals and monthly farmers markets are hosted, in addition to lots of live music on the weekends. The best part about the river walk and the water-front Caras Park is that it's entirely dog-friendly! Better yet, it's dog-encouraged.
