Give a Wag! Gives to Kearney Shelters

Kearney, Nebraska, is no stranger to homeless animals, and it can be difficult to provide care for stray pets. Fortunately, there are a couple shelters in the area that offer food and medical care to these homeless animals while also trying to find them new homes.

The Kearney Area Animal Shelter, also called the Scott and Cheryl Morris Animal Shelter, is a non-profit organization supported by generous donations and adoption fees. The shelter’s mission is to educate the public about the proper care and treatment of companion animals. The Kearney Area Animal Shelter also tries to educate members of the community about animal overpopulation to prevent more unwanted animals in the area. While animals are in the shelter’s care, they receive food, shelter, and medical care.

The Central Nebraska Humane Society was opened in 1966 to help homeless animals in the area find new homes. This shelter helps more than 2,500 animals each year. The shelter opened a new facility in 2007 with enough space for 45 dogs and more than 25 cats at any given time. The Central Nebraska Humane Society is the largest non-profit organization in central Nebraska, and the group also helps return lost pets to their owners. Since 2010, the Central Nebraska Humane Society has adopted out more than 1,000 pets and returned 700 animals to their owners each year.

If you live in the Kearney area and are looking for a new pet, consider stopping by one of these great shelters to find a furry new friend.
