Santa Paws
Has your furry friend been especially good this year? No need to go all the way to the North Pole to make sure Santa knows! Just take a short drive north to Somerset, NJ for the annual Santa Paws event! Bring your four-legged friend and the whole family to get photos taken with Santa. The admission fee for the pet photo session gets you two 4 x 6 photos or a CD or USB containing all of the poses. The dog-friendly event organized by Second Chance for Animals takes place at Sampson G. Smith School and proceeds benefit the Franklin Township Animal Shelter and other local animals in need.36
Dog Walk-a-Thon and Adoption Day
Every autumn on the first Sunday of October, dog lovers gather for the North Brunswick Humane Association's Dog Walk-a-Thon and Adoption Day Event! In the spirit of Halloween, the event features a dog costume contest as well as a group dog walk, dog adoptions, contests, live entertainment, games, food and beverage, and lots of pawsome local vendors! Bring out your canine companion in costume to enjoy a day of tail-waggin' fun for the whole family! Register your dog for the walk-a-thon ahead of time for $15 or at the event for $20. Each additional dog is $5. All proceeds benefit the lifesaving efforts of local animal shelters, so get out and move your paws for a cause!24
Veterans Memorial Park
This 333-acre park really has it all for you and your pup! Th space features 4 miles of wooded walking trails, picnic areas, paved bicycle paths, restrooms, and an off-leash dog park! The dog park area is well-maintained and includes separate fenced sections for small and large dogs to ensure every furry visitor has a fun, safe playtime. Both enclosures offer agility equipment, obstacle courses, pet waste bags, trash receptacles, and benches. There is even a doggie water fountain outside of the off-leash area! Leashed dogs are welcome to accompany you throughout the rest of the park, but be sure to clean up after them! The designated off-leash area is located at the southern end of the park, accessible from the Kuser Road entrance.12
Woofstock Festival
Woofstock is an enormous outdoor festival celebrating all things dog! Taking place every September for more than twenty years, this family and pet-friendly festival benefits the Voorhees Animal Orphanage and their efforts to provide care, shelter, and various services for dogs and cats throughout the region. Woofstock features lots of fun, exciting, and educational opportunities, including dog demonstrations, gourmet food trucks, animal rescue booths, adoptable dogs, raffles, renowned special guests, low-cost microchipping, music, and more than 100 craft and retail vendors. Each year, Super Pet Expo takes place in nearby Edison, NJ, bringing together thousands of pet lovers and their furry friends for a day of shopping, entertainment, and pet-centric fun! The three-day animal extravaganza features educational exhibitors and demonstrations, animal welfare organization booths, pet-related vendors, and interactive dog entertainment. Strut your mutt's style in the Best Dressed Pet Competition, watch your pooch pow-wow in the puppy playground, and let your active dog learn to zip through a luring course! Admission per adult is $13 for one day or $20 for a full weekend pass. Super Pet Expo takes place at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center and friendly, leashed dogs are encouraged to attend!
