This animal-lover event is open to both you and your furry friends! Occurring at the Shaker Heritage Society, this event is made up of both indoor and outdoor pet-related vendors and booths. The fair features pet contests, adoption information, a microchipping clinic, pet product and services vendors, demonstrations and seminars, a pet photo booth, silent auction, snacks and refreshments, and even fun activities for children! Normanskill Farm Dog Park
Set off the beaten path, you can find this off-leash haven in the back of Normanskill Farm near the Community Garden area. The discreetness and distance from major roads are all a part of the appeal of this park. The park is clean and well-maintained and there is a nearby creek for all of those water dogs out there! There are even some trails around the fenced area that provide scenic views of hayfields and the Normanskill River. The rural nature, stunning view, and community garden make this park a wholesome oasis amidst an urban jungle.24
Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail
Looking for a scenic, well-maintained trail to walk your dog pals on? This is it! The Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail is a part of the statewide Erie Canal trail, connecting Albany and Schenectady counties. It is a 96-mile trail encompassed in the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a network of more than 1600 trails nationwide created from former rail lines and connecting corridors. Benches and picnic areas can be found throughout the trail. Leashed dogs are welcome and encouraged to visit here, just be sure to watch for bikes passing by and bring along some water for your four-legged friend!12
