Give a Wag! Gives to Albany Shelters

The Mohawk Hudson Humane Society is the largest and oldest animal protection organization in the New York Capital Region. This nonprofit has been providing care and shelter for lost, unwanted, and abused animals since 1887 and they assist an average of more than 6,000 animals every year. Today, the humane society is as active in the community as ever, providing shelter and care for the area's lost animals, rehoming dogs and cats, rescuing injured/distressed animals, assisting owners in finding their pets, offering microchipping, investigating animal abuse, performing outreach and education programs, and more diverse services. Every day, this remarkable shelter, whose efforts are made possible by a network of dedicated volunteers, strives to enrich the lives of animals and the people who love them!

Another dedicated animal rescue organization serving Albany and the surrounding area is Homeward Bound Dog Rescue. They are a nonprofit group operated entirely by volunteers and are unique in that they have no facilities- all the dogs they rescue go directly into loving foster homes. They find this structure especially beneficial in really getting to know each individual dog, allowing them to being able to provide the most thorough information on the animals' needs, behavior, and temperament to potential adopters. The mission of Homeward Bound is to facilitate the road to lifelong happiness for the dogs they care for and their adoptive families. All dogs in their care are vet examined, up to date on vaccinations, and spayed/neutered whenever possible! Homeward Bound Dog Rescue provides follow-up support for anyone who adopts one of their beloved dogs and loves to hear success stories and see photos!
