Columbus is a "pawsome" city for doggos, with plenty of pet-friendly businesses and vast off-leash areas for you and your pup to enjoy. But if you have to leave town in a hurry and can't bring Lucky along, you’ll need to start searching for dog kennels near you.
However, you may not be keen on sending your fur-baby to a kennel. Thankfully, there are some alternatives, like dog boarding and dog sitting. Dog boarders and sitters will care for your woofer in a home environment, meaning they'll be much cozier than they might be at your local kennel.
As well as looking after Fido for you, many dog sitters and boarders offer dog walking services in Columbus. With your permission, your caregiver can take your pooch for a hike along the Blacklick Creek Greenway in Reynoldsburg to help them de-stress while you're away.
Keep reading to find out all you need to know about dog boarding and sitting in Columbus.
Dog boarding in Columbus generally takes place at a facility similar to a kennel. Columbus dog boarding is fairly run-of-the-mill — there aren’t many luxury facilities in the city. As these kennels are standard, they are relatively inexpensive at around $45 per night. These kennels provide your pup with a place to stay and an outside area where your woofer can make some new pals.
If you are planning on booking a kennel, make sure you check the requirements. Some kennels have strict rules on vaccinations and microchipping. Many dog boarders across Columbus also require proof that your pooch is protected against parasites such as heartworm.
Your pup may not enjoy kennels if they're skittish or a rescue with a history of being in a shelter. One great alternative is in-home dog boarding on the Wag! platform. Dog boarders with Wag! provide overnight care at their home, so your pup will be in a more comfortable environment. With rates starting at just $39 per night, it’s an affordable option that’s sure to keep your Collie cozy.
Looking for a way to leave your pupper at home? Overnight dog sitters in Columbus will come to your house to watch over Scoob, so you can rest easy knowing your pup is as happy as possible. While dog sitting may be preferable to putting your pooch in a kennel, local facilities can be expensive and generally charge between $60 and $150 a night.
Many sitters in Columbus don't offer overnight stays, but will instead stop by for 30 minutes to play with your fur-baby, feed them, and let them out for a potty break. These services generally cost between $25 and $40 for a 30-minute visit.
When booking a dog sitter in Columbus, always check the fine print. Some dog sitters will charge extra for transportation, walks, potty breaks, and more. You may also find there's an additional charge if you have multiple mutts.
Some sitters only work between certain hours, so if your dog needs medication or is on a specific schedule, you may have to sort out an alternative. It's always worth speaking to your chosen sitter over the phone or in person before booking so you can find out about hidden fees and get to know who's watching over your woofer.
Dog boarders on the Wag! platform make sure your pup's tail is still wagging when you return home.

Each boarder on the Wag! platform is vetted with safety tests and background checks, so you know your woofer will be well taken care of. Dog boarders take care of pups at their home, meaning your dog will be in a comfy home setting.
Some puppers hate being away from home and may be best suited to dog sitting. Dog sitters on the Wag! platform will stay overnight at your house and tend to your hound's every need. Just head to the "Overnight" section on the Wag! app, choose “Sitting”, enter details about your trip, and get ready to book a slumber party for your canine compadre.
Check out your chosen dog sitter's profile to make sure they can meet your pup's needs. Then contact them through Wag! Chat to let them know if your dog has any special medical or exercise requirements.
You can also stay up-to-date with how Fido is getting along. Your local dog sitter will regularly send you photos and videos of your mutt playing and napping, so you can relax while you're away, knowing your pupper is comfortable.
It's never easy leaving your fur-baby, even if it's only for an evening. Dog caregivers through Wag! ensure your pup is safe and happy while you're out of town. Book a dog sitter or boarder through Wag! today and see what everyone's barking about!
