Peterson Ridge Rumble
If you don't mind a day trip to Sisters, Oregon (about 4 hours away), hitch up Rover and enter the 20-mile, low-key event that makes use of the Peterson Ridge and Metolius-Windigo multi-use trails. You'll enjoy the beautiful scenery and maybe win a portion of the $1,000 in prize money! (There is a 40-mile option, but Rover will have to stay behind for that part.) All this is to raise money for the Sisters High School Cross Country Team, and many of the volunteers at this event are team members. It all happens during April, but you need to get your registration in right away on their website.

Bear Creek Greenway
If you're wanting a more leisurely, yet still long hike, consider the Bear Creek Greenway! Connecting the cities of Ashland, Talent, Phoenix, Medford and Central Point, the Greenway is 20 miles of paved, multi-use trail. Starting at Ashland's Dog Park, it continues to the Dean Creek Frontage Road just north of Central Point. You don't have to contend with automobile traffic as it is a separate route, but it does allow skateboards, skates, and horses along with you and your pooch. Paralleling I-5, Bear Creek and Highway 99, you'll have a great opportunity to watch the numerous birds in the area as well as having fun as you and Fido get some exercise!

Rogue River- Siskiyou National Forest
If you are looking for a place to go wild with Fido, take a look at the 1.8 million acres in Rogue River and Siskiyou National Forests! The scenery is magnificent, there are hundreds of miles to hike, and the flora and fauna are abundant. You never have to pay a special fee for taking your fur buddy with you and you can even let him run free in the forest (as long as he’s under voice control and won’t chase the wildlife). If you are the type that loves camping, this spot is definitely for you! Although the campground is closed during offseason, the camping and tent areas are dog-friendly, too. This forest is found just outside of Ashland in Medford, Oregon.
