Give a Wag! Gives to Riverwood Shelters

Riverwood is located just south of Portland, a city famed for its dog-loving locals and plethora of dog-friendly attractions. And with such a tight-knit community of animal enthusiasts in and around the local area, pets in Riverwood can always find help, hope, and love when they fall on tough times.

There are several wonderful rescue and animal welfare organizations operating in the area, but Animal Aid and Family Dogs New Life Shelter are two of the best. With a commitment to serve a=nimals and the people they love, Animal Aid is a non-profit rescue organization that’s been helping animals in need throughout the greater Portland area since 1969.

A no-kill animal rescue, Animal Aid has a mission to put an end to animal suffering. To help make this vision become a reality, the group provides assistance to homeless cats and dogs, offers essential financial assistance for spay/neuter services and urgent veterinary care, and provides community education about the importance of animal welfare.

Meanwhile, Family Dogs New Life Shelter is a no-kill shelter devoted to dogs of all shapes and sizes. With a commitment to rescue needy dogs of all breeds, ages and backgrounds, this wonderful group operates on the core belief that every dog deserves a second chance at life.

With between 35 and 50 dogs housed in its shelter at all times, Family Dogs is unique in that the animals it cares for are not kept in kennels or dog runs. Instead, the pets are housed in large play groups or ‘packs’ of anywhere from 8-20 dogs, allowing them to interact with one another all day long. Since 2004, Family Dogs New Life Shelter has placed more than 12,000 dogs into forever homes.
