Give a Wag! Gives to Lancaster Shelters

Lancaster, Pennsylvania, is home to hundreds of homeless animals looking for new, loving homes. Every day, animal shelters in the area work hard to care for and find families for these animals. Commonly referred to as the Puppy Mill Capital of the East Coast, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, has a problem with inappropriately bred dogs, which is why adoption is so important to the shelters in this area.

Home at Last is an animal rescue that works hard to help strays and former puppy mill rejects new homes in Lancaster County. The rescue seeks to educate potential pet owners about bad breeding practices, adoption, and how to raise a puppy. As a volunteer operated rescue, Home at Last is constantly in need of extra hands, supplies, and money. Adoptions through the rescue require filling out an application, reference checks, and home visits to check on the well-being of previously adopted dogs.

The Organization for Responsible Care of Animals is an animal welfare organization based out of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The goal of this organization is to rescue ill, injured, abused, or abandoned animals in the county. The shelter takes in both domestic and wild animals in need of care. While the organization doesn’t focus on healthy animals, it may take in a perfectly healthy pet from time to time. The goal of the organization is to take in ill or injured animals and transform them into perfectly healthy, adoptable pets. By working with the police, ORCA has been able to save many animals from abusive situations.
