Give a Wag! Gives to Scranton Shelters

Established in 1938, the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter has always been dedicated to providing shelter and the best quality of life for animals that come into their care until they can be placed in loving forever homes. Originally located in Scranton, PA, the shelter serves the pets and people throughout Lackawanna County. They moved their location to the neighboring South Abington Township in 1983 to inhabit facilities that would expand and enhance the care they provide for animals in need.

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter is a registered nonprofit organization. They receive no outside funding from the government or animal welfare organizations, but rather rely solely on the generous donations from community members, fundraising, bequests, and grants to carry out their lifesaving mission. As an open admission shelter, the organization accepts all animals, regardless of breed or condition, including those brought in by law enforcement or dog wardens. Similarly, they will never euthanize an animal to create space.

Griffin Pond Animal Shelter provides a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves and they consider this a vital responsibility. The shelter cares for more than 200 animals on a daily basis and around 4,000 each year, ensuring that all of their physical, medical, behavioral, and emotional needs are met. All of their efforts are centered around the mission to prevent cruelty to animals and promote responsible pet ownership.

Committed to making the community stronger for people and their pets, the nonprofit offers adoption services, a foster program, lost and found pet reporting, humane education programs, animal training, a discounted spay/neuter program, and investigation of animal abuse. Working with the support of their local community, the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter strives to positively transform the future of the area's homeless and abused animals.
