When dogs in the borough of Yeadon need assistance of any kind, there are always plenty of rescue groups and animal welfare groups ready to help them get back on their paws.
Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), for example, is a non-profit that’s been helping Philadelphia’s homeless animals since 2006. With an aim to turn Philadelphia into a no-kill city where every healthy and treatable pet is guaranteed a home, PAWS is the city’s largest rescue partner. It operates three no-kill shelters, a network of foster carers, and several special events throughout the year to help thousands of animals find permanent homes.
PAWS starts the process by rescuing at-risk animals out of the city’s shelter and then placing them in loving foster and adoptive homes. It also provides assistance to struggling pet owners to help them keep their pets, and spay and neuter services to help prevent unwanted litters. The entire PAWS operation is privately funded, so donations of any amount are always welcome.
Providence Animal Center is also a friend to animals in need in the greater Philadelphia area. With a goal to promote the importance of the human/animal bond, the center provides rescue, medical care, treatment, protection, and adoptive services to unwanted companion animals.
In 2017, thanks to the commitment of its network of foster families, Providence Animal Center placed more than 4,000 dogs and cats in loving forever homes. Foster families are needed all year round to provide care and shelter to abandoned or abused pets, while donations are also crucial to the future success of the center’s mission to save the lives of our furry friends.
