Give a Wag! Gives to Summerville Shelters

Dorchester Paws shelter was formerly known as the Frances R. Willis SPCA, having changed its name in recent years. This non-profit shelter has recently vowed to become a part of the no-kill pledge in South Carolina and plans to transition fully into that by 2019. This shelter provides Summerville with services ranging from stray management to low-cost veterinary services. Acting as one of the largest shelters in Summerville, Dorchester relies heavily on the generosity of its volunteer network to find forever homes. Dorchester also hosts huge community fundraising events like infamous Paws and Pearls Oyster Roast.

One of the smaller nonprofits rescues in the area, HF HELP is a no-kill shelter that has recently expanded their space in order to house even more animals. This new facility was built, as is the operation of HF Help, by their loyal staff and volunteers. Founded by the 80s by veterans and named for a particularly brave soldier, HF HELP set out to reduce overpopulation and homelessness by desexing any animal that came through its doors. This shelter has helped hundreds of dogs find forever homes with their weekly adoption events, intimate dog profiles, and fierce compassion.

Serving Summerville and the remaining municipalities in Berkeley County. , Doc Williams SPCA has been saving animals since 1991. This shelter is a public advocate, engaging with local animal legislature, all while finding hundred a forever home. Doc Williams SPCA puts on educational presentations at schools and hosts a low-cost spay/neuter clinic. They are an excellent source of information regarding responsible pet ownership, and work closely with the community college technical program.
