My name is Jennifer and I live in Germantown, Tennessee, with my husband, three daughters, dog and cat. I have been a dog lover my entire life having grown up with several four-legged friends on a farm in Ohio. When we moved to Germantown, we brought a cat with us, but we did not have a dog at that time. I am now the owner of a brown Golden Chow named Scout, and a white and black cat named Pearl. My oldest two daughters are now out of the house, which is leaving me more time to take care of my animals and yours as well. Please contact me if you need some help with your dog. I am available to assist anyone in Germantown.

Relying entirely on a foster network, ALIVE Rescue was founded by two passionate women who sought to provide gap services to failed foster situations for homeless animals in Memphis. Since its founding, ALIVE has built itself from the ground up. They provide information about animal rights efforts, responsible pet ownership, and even how to get involved with breed targeting legislation locally. ALIVE is currently working on their newest project - Throw Me A Bone - which seeks to provide supplemental funds to low-income pet owners in order to prevent surrender.
Serving as the government contracted shelter, the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County (HSMSC) places thousands of animals in a forever home. Unfortunately, due to Memphis' significant pet overpopulation problem, they are unable to take stray animals lacking any significant veterinary issue, so it falls on the shoulders of the rescue to support HSMSC. This struggle has bolstered their spay-neuter programs, and they are one of the first lines of defence against instances of animal cruelty. HSMSC does the very best they can while maintaining a strong sense of compassion.
Coming in as the largest no-kill shelter in Memphis, Sunny Meadows is fiercely committed to reducing rates of euthanasia in Memphis. They are able to provide veterinary care, rehabilitation training, and adoption placements for hundreds each year. Sunny Meadows goes the extra mile in ensuring all prospective adopters are the right fit and have all the right tools to provide dogs with a home for the rest of their lives. Usually present at all dog-related events to give ownership advice and host adoption events, Sunny Meadows is a safety net for all of Memphis' unwanted pups.
Hosted annually by ALIVE Rescue at Shelby Farms Park, Dog A Roo is an off-leash dog event for all ages. There are numerous vendors, food trucks, and demonstration events put on by the Memphis Search & Rescue. Come have lots of fun with your canine buddy at your side! Guests are encouraged to register for the Furry Four Legged 4K taking place nearby, and then come relax at Dog A Roo after!
Every Saturday from April to Spring, the Memphis Farmers Market has been a cornerstone of the local economy for over a decade. Hosting over 50 vendors, there is a huge spread of local produce, sweets, cheeses, coffee, and - you guessed it - dog treats! Bring Fido along to pick up your Tennessee favorites and enjoy some live music in the Blues city. It's a great way to get out and see the town with your furry friend in tow.
THE pet event of the season, the Memphis Pet Expo has everything your pup's heart could desire. There are a number of exhibitions like obedience training and either free or discounted services like vaccinations or nail trimming to enjoy. If you are looking to get more involved in the animal community, several non-profits will be recruiting new volunteers. The Memphis Pet Expo takes place at the beginning of August, and all leashed pups are welcome to attend with free admission!
Memphis was a major stopping point for horse-drawn carriages back in the day, and coach drivers would keep their dogs close for protection. Now, Uptown Carriages welcomes well-behaved dogs to join their humans on a sightseeing tour by carriage. Pretend it's the 1900s while a horse pulls you around! Depending on which parts of the city you would like to see, prices vary from $45-$200, and year round tour times are quite flexible.
Wouldn't it be nice if you could enjoy a coffee and muffin while your dog enjoys one too? Look no further than Muddy's Bakeshop in both East Memphis and Midtown. Muddy's welcomes dogs to the patio and has a small treat menu to order from while you get your daily sugar fix. Known for its community engagement, this bakeshop donates as much as they can to local events and nonprofits, so a dollar spent here is a dollar well spent.
