Historic Phantom Hill
This dog-friendly, historic site is a must-see for any history lover. Phantom Hill was one of the first fort installations built by the US Army to protect the expanding Texas settlement of the 1850s. There was a fire shortly after the Army abandoned the settlement, but many of the stone structures are still standing and are ready for you and your whole family to come and explore and study them. Come and be a part of history! We have these brave troops to thank for protecting Texas during a violent time in their history. Be sure to clean up after your dog and maintain the 38-acre sites pristine historic majesty!36
Buffalo Gap Historic Village
Step back in time as you and your entire family visit the Buffalo Gap Historic Village! Your well-behaved, leashed doggo is welcome to join you on your trip back in time! (Be sure to be a good pawrent and clean up after your pup.) This village is an authentic look out 1870s Abilene. The village consists of 15 historic buildings from the 1870s, so be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfy shoes. The buildings' entrances are narrower and there are no ramps like in modern-day buildings, so plan accordingly. Be sure to keep Fido or Fifi in your control so they don't chase after the many barn cats that wander the property patrolling for mice. Come and learn about historic Abilene in the company of your entire family!24
Abilene State Park
Pack the whole family - even the furry members - into the car and head for Abilene State Park! Your pup must be on his leash and you must clean up after him while inside the park. You won't want to forget your camera because you will be surrounded by acre after acre of natural beauty and wildlife! Maybe you'll cross paths with a deer or two or capture a native bird in flight. Abilene State Park is located on 150 Park Road 32 and attendees 12 and above are $5.00 each; kids under 12 (and pooches) are free! There is so much to see and do, you can hike, camp, fish, boat, swim or do a little of each! Come out and spend a great day with the whole family!12
