Give a Wag! Gives to Abilene Shelters

The City of Abilene's animal shelter is dedicated to helping the area's homeless animals. The rescued pets receive all needed shots and adopters receive a voucher to get their new furry family member spayed and neutered by a licensed veterinarian. They have cats and dogs and other little furry animals like rabbits, guinea pigs and their pig cousins, the barnyard pig.

The staff and animal control officers of the Abilene Animal Shelter are dedicated to the safety of the community and its pets. If you see a stray or injured animal in your area, please contact the shelter directly. They will investigate and find the pet's owner or place them in the system to be adopted by a lucky new owner. They are advocates for community outreach as well, so if you have any questions about your current pet or you suspect animal abuse or neglect, please contact them. They take all animal abuse or neglect reports very seriously and if abuse is found, will proceed with charges against the person or people who harmed that animal.

If you are in the market for a new furry friend, please contact the shelter.  If you have any spare time and would like to volunteer, the staff could sure use your help! There is so much to do in a day including cleaning, cleaning and more cleaning, playing, walking, office work and adoption assistance.

If you are in the area and would like to stop in and thank your local animal control officer for looking out for your area's pet population, it would really mean a lot to them. Animal control officers often get a bad reputation as "dog catchers" - but they are truly animal advocates; they are here to save and rehome the lost, stray or hungry homeless pets of Abilene.
