Give a Wag! Gives to College Station Shelters

College Station, Texas, is home to Texas A&M University, whose mascot happens to be a Rough Collie named Reveille, but the original Reveille was a rescued mix-breed like many of the homeless dogs in the area today! Animal shelters were not nearly as prevalent in the early 1930s, however. Now there are two shelters in the area that care for homeless pets: Aggieland Humane Society and Bryan Animal Shelter.

The Aggieland Humane Society began as Brazos Animal Shelter in 1981 to care for homeless animals from College Station, City of Bryan, and Brazos County, as well as other surrounding towns. The name was changed to Aggieland Humane Society in 2012, but the mission stayed the same: care and find homes for homeless and abandoned animals. As a non-profit shelter, Aggieland Humane Society relies on donations, fundraising, and adoption fees to continue caring for animals.

As part of the City of Bryan, the Bryan Animal Shelter works closely with the Animal Control Department of the city. Strays picked up by Animal Control are brought to the shelter and cared for until they can be found forever homes. The Bryan Animal Shelter houses dozens of animals at a time and works to provide medical care to any animal in need that enters the shelter.

If you are interested in bringing a new pet into your home, consider visiting the Aggieland Humane Society or Bryan Animal Shelter. Staff will help match you with the best pet for your lifestyle and family.
