Give a Wag! Gives to Irving Shelters

With a prime location in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, Irving is close to a huge range of dog-friendly attractions, activities, and events. With this in mind, it’s no surprise that Irving also features a number of excellent dog rescue groups and animal welfare organizations that rely on generous community support to help pets in need.

DFW Humane Society is one of those groups. Based in Irving and founded in 1967, this no-kill shelter is committed to giving homeless and unwanted pets a second chance at life. As a non-profit organization, DFW Humane Society doesn’t receive any state or federal funding and is only able to rescue homeless pets thanks to donations and volunteer support from caring animal lovers.

Its shelter is open from Tuesday to Saturday and houses between 80 and 100 animals at any given time, so feel free to pop in if you’re looking for a new furry family member!

PAWS for Irving Animals also pulls out all the stops to improve the lives of the city’s pets. It was first developed in 2012 by a group of Irving Animal Care Campus volunteers who wanted to increase the shelter’s live release rate. Before long, it became a fully-fledged rescue organization dedicated to saving dogs from the Irving Animal Care Campus, and it’s now rescued almost 1,000 at-risk dogs!

With a network of dedicated foster carers throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area, PAWS for Irving Animals cares for between 35 and 45 dogs at any given time. It’s always on the lookout for donations, volunteers, and foster carers, and is worth keeping in mind if you ever want to lend a helping paw.

This annual fundraiser, held each April on the Campion Trail, is a dog walk with a bit of a difference. Unlike most other community dog walks, this event does not have a set course or distance you need to cover. Instead, you and your pooch can simply turn up and walk as little or as much as you want. There’s a whole lot of other dog-friendly fun to enjoy on the day, including vendors, live music, and heaps of prizes, while all you need to enter is a $10 donation.
