When the companion animals of Laredo need help, there are plenty of animal lovers ready to step up to the plate. There are a number of impressive animal rescue and welfare groups operating in and around this southern Texas city, all of them working tirelessly to save homeless and abused pets.
Laredo Animal Protective Society (LAPS) is one of those organizations. Having started life as the Animal Protective Society in the 1950s, LAPS has a mission to provide shelter for homeless, adoptable dogs and cats in Laredo and Webb County until those pets can be successfully adopted out into permanent, loving homes. It also sponsors spaying and neutering programs, returns lost pets to their owners, and educates the wider community on the ins and outs of responsible pet ownership.
Pets Alive Laredo (PAL) is another group committed to the welfare of animals in the Laredo region. This non-profit organization rescues the pets most in need — those that are sick or injured, those that may be passed over due to their appearance, and those serving a 72-hour waiting period.
An entirely volunteer-based organization, PAL has one sole purpose: to save the pets that otherwise would never get a shot at a happy life. It relies on generous donations from the community to provide vaccines, medication, surgeries, and other essential veterinary expenses to pets in need, and since 2015 has been on a mission to transform Laredo into a no-kill community. With this in mind, Pal is well worth considering if you’re looking for a worthy animal rescue group to support.
